About the service
Gateshead provides cancer care for several common cancers. Patients referred to Gateshead will be cared for by a team of professionals, including consultants, cancer nurse specialists, and oncologists, all of whom aim to provide the best possible care.
While Gateshead can care for and treat many cancers, some people may be referred to other hospitals for treatments such as radiotherapy or their care may be shared between other hospitals such as the RVI and Freeman Hospitals in Newcastle.
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital also hosts the Macmillan information and support service which patients, relatives, and carers can access.
Children’s cancers are not treated at this hospital. Referrals are usually made directly to Newcastle Hospitals Cancer Centre.
