About the service
Our cardiology ward treats patients who have been admitted to hospital with a probable acute cardiology problem.
Cardiology is also known as Ward 8 and is a 21-bed ward.
This service provides inpatient care and treatment for patients with various cardiac conditions.
The most common problems people are admitted to this unit are for:
- chest pains (either angina/heart attacks or deemed non-cardiac)
- heart failure
- arrhythmias
Patients are admitted via A&E where they will have been seen by a chest pain assessment nurse or referred from other wards within the trust.
We have facilities for monitoring ten patients at any one time.
Patients are monitored for the first 12-24 hours, dependent on their diagnosis, and are then moved when this is no longer required.
